Ok, so now you've signed off on your proofs, and the book is now ready
to "go to print". The corrected and approved file(s) are
then "Imposed",
then depending on the quantity (less than 500 is sometimes done on
a digital press like Docutech), Printer plates are made of the "Signatures"
needed for your book, as well as the cover. The cover requires one
plate for each of the 4 CMYK colors. The plates are created using
a plate maker. Adibooks uses a CREO 3244 Platesetter. Your books files
are converted to bitmaps of the individual pages (called "Ripping"),
as well as the covers. These plates are then used by the various presses
to actually print the book.
