Covers and other color printed pieces are done using 4 color process
printers. Our Komori (pictured at top) is capable of printing the
4 CMYK colors as well as 2 additional colors at one time.
The book pages are printed on a "Web"
press, or if the quantities are small enough, a "Digital
Press".
Covers are then coated using either an Ultra Violet coater (Shown
at top), or using a film laminate protective covering among other
types.
If your book is Case Bound (Hardback), the cover is mated with the
cardboard backing.
Meanwhile, the printed pages are folded into signatures (if printed
using the web press, the signatures are folded and stacked as they
come off the press), the signatures are then collected together to
form the body of the book.
The individual pieces are then collected together, the cover is joined
to the signatures, and the book is trimmed to its final size. This
is called binding. Your book is now complete!
